"In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears." Ps 18:6

David loved his king, but King Saul had turned from God and became a real and present danger to David. Even as he played his musical instrument for the king's pleasure, David had to stay on guard for objects thrown at him. Ps 18 was a prayer of David thanking God for preserving him from his enemies, including Saul.

King Saul was anointed by Samuel, God's prophet. So was David. Saul was a warrior. So was David. Both men were given the opportunity to lead God's people and both men, at one time, had known the blessing of God. Yet history tells us that David was "different". Saul never really respected David but saw him as a threat. David on the other hand, viewed Saul as an instrument of God and treated him with respect.

What was the difference? God's word tells us that knowing God is not enough. Thanking God, truly thanking him is more than a "good thing" - it is the difference between becoming a man after God's heart and being a man after one's own heart.

"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened." Rom 1:21

Have you thanked him today? More importantly, do you even have the desire any more? Or, have you become slave to your own foolish heart and futile thoughts? Look out! That's called "darkness", and it is defined as "the absence of light". Just Thinkin'.. WebServant
