Nine year old Ken wrote; "Dear God, Do you think there's enough love these days? I feel there's a shortage." Love, Ken. (1)
From the mouth of a child comes keen perception. Not only is there a shortage of love as Ken observes, but it also seems "hatred" is overstocked. We can understand the lack of love in a person living without Christ, but when it shows up in the life of a Christian, something's wrong.
Jesus prayed for believers of all ages, "I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them." (John 17:26) Jesus said that revealing God should be enough to create a spirit of love within us. But then, Jesus moves IN US and brings His love to come along side our own. How could anyone with Jesus IN THEM resist the love of God? Paul said, "Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." 1 Cor 13:6,7
So, how does one learn to love? You can't! According to scripture, love is a product of knowing God through Jesus Christ who lives in them. It only makes sense then, that you can tell who is a Christian by the way they treat others. Ken, you can rest assured - there's enough love in Jesus Christ to not only cover the whole world but to also love our neighbor.
