Read the Bible through in OneYear

So Abram said to Lot, "Let's not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. Is it not the whole land before you? Let's part company. If you go to the left, I'll go to the right. If you go to the right, I'll go to the left." Gen 13:8

This Scripture may lead you to think Abram is angry with his nephew, and wanting to avoid association with him. But that's not the case. You see, the plain of Jordan was a desirable place to live, as it was well-watered, fertile and level land with cities. In the other direction, the land of Cannan was a rough and rugged terrain of tent dwellers. Abram granted his nephew his choice of either place and gladly accepted the "leftovers" as the place he would call home.

There's a saying that aptly describes today's society; "Get all you can - Can all you get and poison the rest." If one word was used to define our generation, it would be the word, "unfair" and "unjust". In fact, the definition of "fairness" as it relates to personal interaction could probably be removed from the dictionary without anyone ever missing it.

Lot chose the "best" land and eventually moved to Sodom, one of the cities on the plain. That was a bad move for Lot, as it proved too much temptation for him. God ultimately destroyed Sodom because of it's wickedness and Lot almost lost his life by his association with the Sodomites.

Abram, on the other hand was blessed by God for his attitude and trust for God. Today, Jesus uses a simple illustration to teach us how to live. "Do to others as you would have them do to you." Luke 6:31 Do you realize most of the laws we live by, could be reduced to these eleven words. Not only so, but I believe the world would be transformed if people would follow this simple teaching. However, a transformation like that must begin somewhere before it can spread elsewhere.

Jesus planted His Church in order to do exactly that - spread the good news. We are called to be salt and light to the world. By the way the world sees the Church love one another, they will see the proof of God's word. The only question remaining today is, "Will we allow the word of God to transform us?"     Just Thinkin'.. WebServant
