Read the Bible through in OneYear

Jesus was twelve years of age when he visited Jerusalem with his parents for the Feast of Passover. After the Feast, Joseph and Mary left for home and after a day they realized Jesus wasn't with them. Upon returning to Jerusalem, they found Jesus after three days in the temple courts in discussion with teachers.

To have been a fly on the wall in the temple courts those days...  Jesus amazed everyone with his questions and answers. His understanding commanded the attention of the learned teachers.

Jesus expressed surprise that his parents were looking for him. He explained that it was only normal that he should be in his father's house. Scripture says that Mary and Joseph didn't understand what Jesus telling them, although it gave Mary a lot to think about.

Such it is with understanding. Some have it and others don't. David wrote in Psalm 119 that understanding comes from obeying God's word; "Your statutes are wonderful; therefore I obey them. The entrance of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple." (vs 129,130) Jesus added in Matthew 11:25; I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children."

New Age philosophy teaches that a man can gain as much knowledge and understanding as he desires. According to God's word, a person can gain all the knowledge he desires but understanding comes from God alone.
