Tomorrow America will recognize and honor those men and women who have given their lives in service to this country. Bands will march, military leaders will make proclamation and the President of the United States will lay a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. Sadly, this day will come and pass under the shadow of one of the most controversial events in American history. Not a minute goes by that someone doesn't decry foul and threaten to challenge the results of this past election day. "Well meaning" people promise to continue election protests as long as it takes to be assured the vote count is accurate and final. One can only wonder if they would have shown the same tenacity for accuracy if the apparent outcome of the election was in their candidate's favor. Representatives of every splinter group imaginable have seized the photo opportunity to question the fairness of the election. Across the air waves of broadcast media, people complain that the winner may not reflect America's desire or their group's best interest. It seems only consistent with our nation's steady moral decay, that a time of honoring our patriots will be secondary to selfish, personal interest. Today, we need to reflect on our nation and its Constitution. They both were created to defend its citizens from threat, tyranny and oppression - from without and from within. Down through the years, soldiers have given their lives to protect it from those who sought to dismantle it. Even though we're angered by the actions of a few selfish people, we need to remember that our veteran's died for these whiners as much as anyone else. Will our nation survive? I submit that it's not in the hands of voters, a new President, Senators, congressional representatives, splinter group or religious leaders, lawyers or judges. Rather, the God of Israel, Jehovah God is in control. Listen to what king Solomon said was responsible for the destruction of his people and their land: "And though this temple is now so imposing, all who pass by will be appalled and say, 'Why has the Lord done such a thing to this land and to this people?' People will answer, 'Because they have forsaken the Lord, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, worshipping and serving them - that is why he brought all this destruction on them'" 2 Chr 7:21,22 Some things never change. Job puts it into words even the simplest mind can comprehend: "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; May the name of the Lord be praised." Just Thinkin' WebServant
