"Many are the things which God wills to do and would like to do, but His hands are bound because His children do not sympathize with Him and have not prayed so as to prepare ways for Him." Watchman Nee I'm sure there is disagreement among theologians regarding such a statement as this. Some say that the creation cannot "bind" the Creator from His purpose. Others claim that God does not do what He desires, when He desires to do it because of the limits placed on Him by His creation. I think both opinions have merit. In Matthew, Jesus is delivering a message on reconciliation to His disciples when He tells them they can "bind" things on earth by His authority. Jesus is talking here about Church authority and the need for discipline within the body, but the principle teaches us much more. The Church has power to accomplish many things on earth that are not being done. "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them." Mat 18:19,20 How many times have you practiced this teaching in Matthew? How many times have you purposed to know God's will, find another believer who agrees with you and pray it believing that God will do it by the authority of His Word. There is certainly a lot God wants to do. Why would we not do such a simple thing in order to appropriate God's promise? "'Why are you sleeping?' Jesus asked them. 'Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.'" Luke 22:46
