"A nation which does not remember what it was yesterday, does not know what it is today, nor what it is trying to do. We are trying to do a futile thing if we do not know where we came from or what we have been about." President Woodrow Wilson (1) In Matthew 13 Jesus tell a story about a man who sowed good seed in his field. But, while everyone was sleeping an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, then went away. After a while the wheat sprouted but so did the weeds. (verse 14-27) In his book, "America: To Pray or Not to Pray?"(2), David Barton uses this parable to show what happened when Christians in America went to sleep. He believes we abdicated responsibility, allowing a nation built on godly principles to be given over to ungodly men. The Enemy prospered while Christians slept on watch. David offers these steps to begin removing weeds that have a choke hold on our nation:
As we fight to reclaim what our Enemy took from us, let us never forget this truth; "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is in the world." 1 John 4:4
