Read the Bible through in OneYear

"How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." Psalm 119:9-11

When up against incredible odds and not expected to survive, through the ages, men and women of God have defied those odds. Many of them, not only survived, but were victorious over their enemy. Take Joshua for example.

How would you like to follow Moses as leader of the Israelites? Maybe the robe of Moses and the staff of God gave Joshua some confidence, but I suspect it was his faith in Jehovah and not his possessions that gave him hope for the future. God told Joshua, "As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you or forsake you." (Joshua 1:5) I don't know about you, but just that thought alone sends chills running up and down my back.

With a background in sales, I've heard, and given, many motivational speeches throughout my life. But none of them were as powerful as that which God told Joshua in the first chapter of the book by the same name. Listen to what God promised him:

  • I will give you every place where you set your foot. (3)
  • No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life (4)
  • You will be successful wherever you go (7)
  • You will be prosperous and successful (8)

I'm not sure, but I think some of my former sales managers may have gotten a lot of their material from this reference in the Bible. But now these questions beg to be asked; "Do you believe God is able to do this in your life? Do you have confidence in Him to do what He promised to do? Are you desirous of being an overcomer, like Joshua, or are you afraid?" Regardless of your answer to these questions you should know that God is ready at the point of your willingness. Are you willing to trust God? Here's how you can start:

  1. Read, study and meditate on His Word.
  2. Pray and ask God to give you confidence, not in your ability, but His.
  3. Do what He tells you to do in His Word and through His Spirit.
  4. Trust Him to do what He promised to do.
  5. Keep you eyes on Him, not your enemies.

May our response to God be like those hearing Joshua's challenge: "Whatever you have commanded us to do, and wherever you send us we will go." (16)

If it's true that you shouldn't start something you can't finish, it's also true that you can't finish something you never start.
