Read the Bible through in OneYear

God's Word is our faithful standard. From it we learn about God and what God expects from us.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Tim 3:16

God called David a man after His own heart and David recognized his need to maintain a teachable spirit. David asked God to search his heart and see what needed to be changed in order to maintain a proper relationship with Him. In fact, almost the entire book of Psalms is a tribute to David's love for God and his love for His word.

Each of us should maintain such a teachable attitude. Our early years are a constant learning quest that continues till we take our last breath. But sadly, some of us get an education but never learn anything. God appreciated David because, while he got an education, he also learned what God was teaching.

Most people are highly educated. But education alone doesn't mean a person has a teachable spirit. Here's what identifies a person with/without a teachable spirit:

  1. They (will not) acknowledge their weakness and God's power.
  2. They (will not) accept God's assessment of their condition.
  3. They (will not) allow God to make adjustments to their attitude.
  4. They (will not) alter personal actions which don't please God.
  5. They (will not) align themselves with God's Word.

The word "will" (above) denotes the fact that a person chooses whether he will be taught. If you're one of these people that shuts God out of your life, understand that's your choice. But, also understand that you can't please God with that kind of attitude. Here's what pleases God:

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." 2 Tim 2:15

Does this reflect your desire? If it does and you identify yourself as a person without a teachable spirit, you first need to ask God to change you from the inside out. You may be a Christian without a teachable spirit. Know, that your desire has to change and only God can do that. However, if you refuse to ask him, then refer to item #3 above.
