"This is why I weep and my eyes overflow with tears. No one is near to comfort me, no one to restore my spirit. My children are destitute because the enemy has prevailed." Lam 1:16 A careful look at Scripture tells us that Satan is the number one enemy of Christians. He, not only wants to injure them, but he plans to defeat them and frustrate God while doing it. His action includes harassment, frustration, aggravation, intimidation and threat to mention just a few. And it's all directed at those possessing the Holy Spirit. If you're a Christian, that includes you! Have you ever wondered why some people seem to be hounded by the enemy and others are not? Think about this: If you're already defeated, confused and isolated to the point you've given up, what else does Satan need to do to you? The answer is, "Nothing!" As long as you're down and not getting up, why should Satan care what you do? Understand that Satan's resources, unlike God's, are limited. He can't be everywhere at the same time and while his army of angels, called demons, are dealing with one person, Satan may not have the resources to allocate to others. But Satan is clever and works around that problem. He uses people, like me and you, to do his work for him. So in effect, A child of God, controlled not by the Holy Spirit but by the forces of darkness through sin, effectively is a weapon of Satan against God. The next time you think of sin as just a personal issue, just that about that! But when a person get up by God's power and starts living for Jesus, he becomes a threat to Satan and His plans. It is then that Satan allocates more resources, realizing the potential danger. If you're the one against whom Satan is directing his animosity, you will undoubtedly experience all kinds of treachery from Satan's unholy bag of tricks. So what is a Christian to do when he faces a resourceful enemy of supernatural power and a relentless vendetta against everything holy? "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up." James 4:7-10
