Read the Bible through in OneYear

"I didn't do anything wrong! It was that woman you put here with me. It was her. I'm innocent, I tell you - innocent! Why'd you put her here, anyway?" Gen 3:12 ('Slight' paraphrase)

Have you ever heard the expression, "It's like nailing jello to the wall!"? If so, you have a fairly good picture of what it was like in the garden of Eden when God found Adam and asked him why he had disobeyed Him. Adam's failure to accept responsibility for his sin have echoed down through the ages, serving as a good example of what NOT to do when you sin.

For all practical purposes Adam was even willing to blame God as much as Eve. He didn't care. He desired to escape the consequences for his failure and that burning desire overruled, not only his love for his mate, but also his love for God. That's how deep we sink when sin runs our life. No one is safe, not our family, friends, work associates, nor our Christian friends.

It is also worth noting that when consequences for Adam's failure were dished out, other people paid a price as well. What would've been different had Adam confessed his sin and asked forgiveness from his wife and offered to accept all consequences for the sin? Probably nothing. But a good testimony of righteousness would have been recorded rather than his Genesis example of selfishness we now have.

How do you compare yourself to Adam's example? When confronted with sin, do you quickly respond with an humble confession of brokenness? Or, like Adam, do you pass the blame to someone else, even if it was your responsiblity?

As Christians, we have the most wonderful promise of God's forgiveness and method of restoration. As men and women, we have certain hope for fellowship with our God and each other when we simply trust and obey God.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
