Can you imagine the surprise when a man, bent over carrying a heavy and bulging suitcase, was met at heaven's gates by an angel. "Excuse me! You know you can't bring anything in here with you", said the guardian. "You'll have to leave it behind". The man replied, "Oh, but what's in this case represents my whole life and besides, I've got Scriptural authority to bring it with me". With that, the angel was so curious he had to ask, "And just what Scriptural authority do you have, sir?". The man replied, "My authority is Psalm 24:1 and Romans 8:17;'The earth is the Lord's and everything in it; Now if we are children, then we are heirs.' I brought to heaven what belongs to me as a rightful heir of God?". With a smirk on his face, the angel's curiosity again got the best of him as he thought, "Why not? I've got to see this before I tell the man it's not making the trip". "Ok, sir, step over here and open your suitcase. This is an official gate inspection". The man looked around to make sure no one else was watching as he placed the suitcase on a table and opened one of the many locks securing the contents. As he lifted the top of the case, he invited the angel to take a peek. As the angel looked over the man's shoulder, he stopped short of breaking into laughter. When he was fully composed, the angel turned and broke the news to the man. (with a slight grin I might add) "Sir, you've got bars of gold in this case! You've been carrying this heavy case your whole life. Don't you realize you've wasted your energy bringing it here? Our streets are paved with this stuff!" What about you, Christian friend? Are you wasting time and energy carrying a load of material possessions that have no value to God? Are you burdened down with things that will never make the trip to heaven? If so, it's time to realize that possession does not imply ownership. Everything you've "got" can be taken in a single moment, and then what? What will you do and where will you turn when everything to which you've devoted your life is taken? It's time to realize what Job realized when he lost "everything": "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart." Job 1:21 Now that you know what you'll be wearing and what you'll be carrying when you die, you can ditch the rest of the stuff before it possesses you. Just Thinkin'.. WebServant
