"O Lord God Almighty, who is like you? You are mighty, O Lord, and your faithfulness surrounds you." Psalm 89:8

I have difficulty finding words to adequately describe God. I just know that with every word I use to define His character, I underestimate Him once again. An example is trying to define the wonderful, unswerving consistency of God's character. Saying, "He is faithful" is, in itself, not enough to do the job. He is much more than that!

Artists, attempting to capture the character of the Lord Jesus on paper or canvas, may render a halo over His head. Of course, when they draw angels, they too need glowing circular arcs over their heads as well. Well, do they draw larger arcs over Jesus' head or dimmer arcs over the heads of the created angelic beings? You see the problem; All artists have my dilemma when it comes to adequately defining the vastness of God's character.

A song writer said it this way; Could we with ink the ocean fill, and were the skies of parchment made; Were every stalk on earth a quill and every man a scribe by trade; to write the love of God above would drain the oceans dry - nor could the scroll contain the whole though stretched from sky to sky. Yes, all writers, composers, artists and anyone else with tongue or rendering instrument, is far shy of having the capacity to adequately define the Heavenly Father. But we try anyway. The beauty of it is in the fact that we have the wonderful privilege to take everything to God in prayer.

Yes, praying is like winding all our need, our expectation and all our hope into a ball of yarn and laying it at God's feet. When we do, we can look closely and see a scarlet thread woven all through it that seems to be holding it all together. Just when we think our entire life is about to come unraveled, the Master weaver reveals the truth; we're part of a much larger work which includes His faithfulness woven through every fabric of our life. And God holds it all in the palm of His hand. We are as safe as God's ability to hold us.

Thank you God for Your loving kindness and faithfulness and pardon my inability to speak, sing or compose adequately. O for a thousand tongues to sing...
