"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled." Matthew 5:6 Godly desires are a gift from God. When we received the Holy Spirit we were given a healthy appetite for righteousness. This came via a love for God's Word, a desire to please God and the desire to spend time with Him in prayer. However, outside of the Spirit, we have no holy desire at all and no desire to pray. Some people think a person's desire is a good litmus test for revealing whether they are saved or not. But when a person claiming to be a Christian, seldom picks up a Bible or rarely attends church, maybe there's no need to waste time testing them. Prayer can be defined as spending time with God. Praying itself, is not a natural act. In fact, seldom is a new Christian instructed how or when to pray. On the contrary, most Christians are not taught to pray or really expected to live a holy life. But God's Word speaks volumes about the danger of such a mistake: "For the eyes of the
Lord are on the righteous and his ears attentive to their prayer, but the
face of the Lord is against those who do evil." We can conclude from this scripture that God hears the prayer of the righteous but turns deaf to the prayer of those who are not. Worse yet, God is against those people, even if they're saved. The next time you pray, you may want to see if God is listening before you open your mouth. Just Thinkin'..
