Today is the last day of year 2001. Today most people will be taking care of last minute duties that must be performed in this calendar year and tonight at 12:01am, we will welcome the New Year. Yesterday was the Lord's Day and I had the opportunity to meet some new friends from another part of the country who were visiting their relatives and our local church while here. We spoke of the fact that we may never see each other again this side of glory and recognized that it was God's providence that brought us together on this single day in eternity. Have you ever wondered just how many times you've met someone whom you may never see again? If these people are believers, we have assurance we will see each other in heaven, but there's no assurance our paths will cross again here on earth. How many people like that did you meet just in this one year? All too many times I fear we treat such providential occurrences with a casual attitude. But is it possible that these brief encounters are arranged by God in order to deliver a special word to your heart? Scripture tells us to love one another as brothers, not forgetting to "entertain" strangers for we do not know how many times these new folk are actually angels, sent from God, and we don't know it. (Hebrews 13:1) Today I ask the question, "Would you treat a person differently if you knew for a fact that they were sent by God for a special heavenly purpose"? Then I ask another question, "Are there times when an encounter is not providential"? If you stop and think about it, no meeting is outside of God's providence. So the final question bears asking, "Knowing that God arranged your meeting, what is He trying to teach you"? What does He want you to say to "strangers" today"? Just Thinkin... WebServant
