Read the Bible through in OneYear

"I would not obey my teachers or listen to my instructors. I have come to the brink of utter ruin in the midst of the whole assembly". Proverbs 5:13-14

We know that confession of sin is a prerequisite to answered prayer. But have you considered there are other conditions that must be met before God will even hear your prayer?

One such prerequisite to having an effective prayer-life is having a teachable spirit. Such an attitude is required or the correction of God's word is ineffective to you.

There is nothing more frustrating to a parent than a child who "knows everything" and won't stand still and be corrected. Often these rebellious kids respond with terse lips, harsh response, folding of the arms and rolling of the eyes. It's been said that parents should ask their children everything while they're still teenagers and know everything.

Seriously, the problem of "know-it-alls" who never learn, doesn't reside just in teenagers. There are countless adults with the same attitude when it comes to listening to God's correction. "Well, I couldn't do that"; "That doesn't apply for me"; "You don't understand my situation, God"; "But, every other church member I know is doing the same thing"; "But my intentions were good". And on and on it goes...

When you pray, do you ask for and receive God's correction with a glad heart and eager willingness to change? If not, don't blame God by saying he doesn't hear or answer your prayers. And if he is not the reason your prayers are unanswered, that only leaves one person who is.
