Read the Bible through in OneYear

"Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming". 2 Peter 3:11-12a

If you knew that something catastrophic was going to happen tomorrow, you would no doubt, change your plans today to take care of matters you consider vitally important. When we fail to redeem our time, isn't it because we think have a lot of it remaining?

Those who recorded what we call the Holy Scriptures all agree on the attitude that man should have concerning the present life and the next. And here it is: Since this life is short and the next one long, it makes sense that preparing for the period of our life that will account for most of our total days.

How can we reckon "long" according to God's measuring standard? Peter said that one day was like a thousand to the Lord. According to that standard, we will spend around 25,567 days (70 years x 365.25 days/year) on earth. Convert each of those days to one year and you begin to see why we should not be wasting each of our precious years on earth.

But there's a more important consideration regarding our life on earth and the one hereafter. That is that this life ends in death where the next one resets and keeps going over and over again - for eternity. Some might say that our life on earth is closed-ended whereas our life in eternity is open-ended, regardless of where we are.

What does all this mean? Are you living a holy and godly life? Do you look forward to the Lord's coming? If you are, then by the authority of God's word, you will have an eternity to thank God for his goodness. If not, you will have an eternity to regret your shortsighted ignorance of God's word.
