Read the Bible through in OneYear

"A poor man is shunned by all his relatives - how much more do his friends avoid him!

When the discussion turns to finances, one quickly learns that a person of means has little regard for those who are not. In fact, most people like that ignore the value of those without money. They conclude that their lack of money is an indicator that they have no influence. If they're talking about worldly influence, than that opinion is more than likely correct.

One thing is obvious when you look at the Apostles who walked with Jesus. Even though they were simple people without financial security, they became the most influential people in history short of Jesus himself. The Master considered them to be valuable even though they themselves were of no earthly value.

Jesus recognized that most wealthy people were not good prospects to be groomed for positions of spiritual authority. Perhaps the reason was that such people tend to view God's ability in light of their own. Since God takes care of himself, he surely respects people who do the same. Such reasoning is foreign to the kingdom of God.

Are you in such a position that God can put you to work in his kingdom? He can use anyone with the right heart and attitude but are you dependent on him? Are you trusting God to get you through today, tomorrow and beyond? Can you truly say, "If God doesn't come through for me, it's hopeless"?

If you're dependent on God who never fails, there's hope. But if you depend on your own ability, you better hope you never fail.
