"They preached the good news in that city and won a large number of disciples." Acts 14:21 Today, discipleship is a seemingly forgotten element of our Christian walk. In the early church, no one was ever saved but that they were viewed as a young disciple of Christ. It was the responsibility of the older Christians to nurture them in the faith. The first church never considered that a person might be a believer but not a disciple. Many people hearing this will ask, "What's the difference?" I recognize Jesus as my Savior and go to church. Isn't the role of disciple reserved for church leaders? Discipleship is closely related to the root word, "discipline". The term implies something in the order of a practicing apprentice. Disciples hit the ground running and only slow down to spend time meditating and studying the Word of God. Maybe you're a person who believes that Christianity is a spectator sport for everyone but paid minister. Not! Another interesting things about disciples is that they are called to make other disciples when they are mature. What will it be; sit and soak? I don't know about you, but I want to be about becoming what God wants me to be. If I understand anything about Scripture and have reached any sort of maturity in Christ, then I should be finding and making disciples for the Lord, rather than watching someone else do it.
