Read the Bible through in OneYear

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23

Upon cleaning out our storage area recently I found a box containing toys our twenty-eight year old son played with as child. In the box was toy soldiers, artillery trucks and cars. With a shovel and toys such as these, a kid can find entertainment for hours on end.

I think it's in the nature of all men to love digging in dirt. Whether it's a hole simulating a valley for a miniature truck or a hole filled with water for playing in the mud, a boy's got to do what a boy's got to do.

They say the only thing that separates men and boys is the price of their toys. Seeing the huge trucks owned by some teenagers, I believe the gap is much closer than that. But boys grow up and bury things they shouldn't.

Romans 3:23 says "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Men and women sin and in an attempt to hide it from God, bury it in the dirt of forgetfulness. They think, maybe God won't find it and it won't affect me.

It doesn't take a Bible genius to figure out that hidden sin begins to stink after a while. So what does a man do? Dig it up, show it to God and ask for his forgiveness? (1Jo 1:9)I think not. More times than not, we dig our holes deeper and plant our sin further from the surface hoping that makes the smell go away.

If we continue to conceal sin, the truth of Scripture catches up to us and brings us face to face with the inevitable: The way of a man seems right, but in the end it leads to death." (Pr 14:12; 16:25). Proverbs 26:27 tells us, "If a man digs a pit, he will fall into it." If we keep digging, at about six feet we might fall into it and be covered with six feet of dirt.

Funny how the holes we dig for one purpose could wind up serving another purpose entirely.
