Read the Bible through in OneYear

"Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit; whoever climbs out of the pit will be caught in a snare." Isaiah 24:18

Everyone is concerned about global war. We've already experienced two world wars and the second one ended with the use a powerful weapon of unbelievable destruction. In the second one, only one nation had such a doomsday weapon and it was the United States of America. But, today, it's a different story. Nuclear weapons are now in the hands of many nations.

Some nuclear nations regularly threaten their neighbors with use of atomic or biological weapons if they feel provoked. That fact is reason enough to be concerned for an escalating world conflict. But even worse is the knowledge that tyrannical dictators of small nations, will threaten to use such a weapon on unsuspecting innocent people. They do this either to make a religious statement or in an attempt to purge their population of those people the government deems undesirable.

A thirst for power is often the motivation for such action, but in many cases, religious extremists want to destroy everyone on the earth who disagrees with their twisted religious perspective. It is then that fear comes in a different wrapper: terrorism. Suicide bombers attack innocent civilians unexpectedly without provocation. For sure, terrorists have no respect for their life, or anyone else's.

Scripture says that a person who flees terror will no doubt fall into a trap of his own making. And even should a person be successful avoiding that kind of trap, a snare has been laid by the enemy to grab and hold you as you avoid or climb out of the trap.

So, what are we to do? As Christians, we should realize that God has made a way that protects us - even when we walk in the shadow of death. (Ps 23) When we succumb to fear, it is then that we become our own worst enemy, for fear itself is always larger than the evil that cast the shadow.

Are you in the shadow of death or tippi toeing around it hoping you won't have to deal with it? Know this timid Christian: Jesus has faced and defeated the best the enemy has to offer. He did this for us so we wouldn't have to do it. If we stand in His shadow, we're victorious, but if we tremble in the shadow of the enemy, we're acting defeated even though Christ has already defeated him.
