Read the Bible through in OneYear

"...so that nothing will hinder your prayers." 1 Peter 3:7b

Most Christians answer in the affirmative when asked if they pray. But many of those same people, if totally honest, would also admit that they don't understand prayer and really know how to do it effectively.

I enjoy talking to people with knowledge of the Bible but without discernment of what it really says. More times than not, a person seeing truth for the first time is like a light bulb being turned on their head, brightening their eyes and making them smile. I know because that's how it was with me when I first began to read God's Word with discernment.

Peter was speaking to husbands of Christian persuasion when he wrote that treating their wives wrong would hinder their prayer. Yet I wonder how many men really consider that warning and care?

If the truth were known, I suspect that most men who profess to pray seldom, if ever do so unless another person prays aloud while they listen and agree. I wonder if men like that really care about losing the effectiveness of prayer. If a man is not doing something, losing the privilege to do it means nothing to him.

Jesus said that truth will set us free when we know it. (Jn 8:32) Does that mean that those who refuse to embrace the truth are prisoners?

Peter believed a warning to Christian men about losing the right to effectively pray would motivate them to treat their wives properly. If such a warning doesn't motivate you, to what do you attribute the fact?
