Read the Bible through in OneYear

Tenet (ten'it) n. A principle, doctrine, or belief held as a truth.

"For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth." 2 Corinthians 13:8

This may be news to you, but much of the Bible contains provisional promises. That is, doing a certain thing will lead to certain results, almost like a scientific cause and effect phenomenon. Yes, the Bible is full of spiritual laws that are just as predictable as the law of physics that states for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

What is a provisional promise? Look in the Bible and find the word "if" and more than likely you've landed on one, but certainly not all of them. When you realize that there are two sides to a provisional promise, it can transform your Bible Study and perhaps even your life. Look at 1 Corinthians 3:17 for example.

"If anyone destroys God's temple (our body), God will destroy him." The truth of that statement is obvious, but the opposite is also true. "If anyone cares for God's temple, God will not destroy him." True? Food for thought , isn't it?

Too many times we accept the commands of Scripture as a suggestion. Do you believe that obedience is optional and that God will overlook your ignorance? You shouldn't! If we obey Scripture, we are blessed, but if we do not, then we will certainly bear the direct consequences. Why not prove this truth and go to the first chapter of Psalms and read it in a negative context:

"Defeated and discouraged is the person who walks in the counsel of the ungodly or stands in the way of sinners or sits in the seat of mockers. His delight is not in the law of the Lord; neither does he meditate on it at all. He is unlike the tree planted by streams of water; he does not yield fruit in season and all his leaves wither. Nothing he does will prosper..."

If you're experiencing problems today, reading Scripture under the influence of the Holy Spirit may reveal why. You understand your consequences; now you can track specific sin that leads to the consequences you are now experiencing. Once you see your sin, confess it and correct it (repentance) by doing what the Word of God says you should have done the first time you read it, if you read it at all.

Tenet #9 - "If something is true, the opposite is also true."
