"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken ..." Isaiah 54:10a

I don't know about you but it sometimes feels as if the mountains are shaking and all the seemingly unchangeable things in my life are moving. The prophet was speaking to God's people about the enduring love of God for His people. Today, we should take great solace in Isaiah's words of encouragement.

Like me, you may be going through extreme trials in your life, the like of which you've not seen before. The things you thought you could depend on prove to be like shifting sand under your feet. Just when you think you've got your balance and are making progress, you fall down, sometimes pulling down those you believed you were supporting.

Christian friend, if that describes the way you feel today, take comfort; God's word is true and God is faithful. No matter what moves, collapses, disintegrates or vaporizes in front of your eyes, His love never changes and His word never fades. He will never leave us, forsake us or allow us to stay on the ground after we've fallen. By his love we know the comfort of His enduring grace. When we're ready to get up, we'll find His hand is extended to help us.

"Why go through such valleys," you may ask. I don't have a pat answer to that question, but I know one thing: the valley is where I build strength and aspire to climb mountains. And what are valleys anyway except space between mountains? The only danger I face is the prospect of dying in the valley in despair and despondency.

So, rejoice saints! No matter how large, wide, high or deep our problems, God is larger, wider, higher and deeper.
