"He went down with them and stood on a level place. Luke 6:17 What's so significant about the verse above? It's only fitting that Luke, the beloved physician, would write this. Jesus had just finished extending a call to the twelve disciples and then referred to them as "apostles," someone who walked with him and would carry his authority. Jesus took them "down" which meant he had been on high ground. What were they doing there? Verse 12 says he went into the hills to pray. It never says the disciples joined him in prayer, but it does indicate that they were with him. That sounds like another occasion when the disciples were with Jesus but failed to remain in a spirit of prayer. It was the Mount of Olives where Jesus was captured and then taken to a kangaroo court where he was sentenced to die a cruel death. On this day, Jesus was descending the mountain after spending all night in prayer. He called his disciples to join him and then sought out level ground and there he allowed himself to be swarmed by the masses who had heard of his healing power. There is a time when being high and lifted up above the masses is OK. When we're at the feet of Jesus in prayer, we can spend all the time there we choose. But, when we're done, we should realize there's work to be done and seek level ground where we can get shoulder to shoulder with those God called us to serve. Have you prayed and asked God what it is he wants you to do today? Have you found your level ground and are now looking for those who need a touch of the Master's hand? Sometimes you don't have to search too hard because God will send them to you. All you have to do is open your eyes! Just Thinkin'... WebServant
