"They are not just idle words for you - they are your life." Deuteronomy 32:47

"Sing them over again to me; wonderful words of life. Let me more of their beauty see, wonderful words of life; Words of life and beauty, teach me faith and duty: beautiful words, wonderful words, wonderful words of life." (1)

Sung by many since their youth, this hymn echoes the message of Moses to the Israelites just before he died. In today's vernacular he might have said it this way: "The word of God is important; don't take it for granted, but live according to its principles, model your life after its teaching and make it the center of everything you say and do; make it the reason you live."

Most of us hardly find the time to read God's word, much less make it the center of our life as Moses commanded. We can criticize the Hebrew children all we want for disappointing God, but in so doing we become a hypocrite. You see, we prove the diminished value of God's word by the amount of time we don't read it.

Perhaps you're challenged today to once again make God's word the driving force of your life. If so, take notice that you've placed yourself on the firing line of the greatest spiritual battle of your life. The devil will do everything he can to cause you to trip, fall or even turn around and run from your commitment. He doesn't want you praying and he doesn't want you reading Scripture.

Knowing this, take comfort child of God. In the same way your adversary wants to see you fail, God wants to see you succeed. Today, why not ask Him to help you find the best time and place to hear his voice. Dedicate yourself by God's grace to spending substantive time listening to God's word. Then, ask Him to reshape your life to be more like Jesus, who found the right way to live: He surrendered his plans, aspirations and ultimately Jis life in order to give life to us.
