"Since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you." Colossians 1:9b

How much time in a day do you mention someone else in a time of prayer before the Lord? Paul began most of his letters to the churches by saying that he was praying for them. So, how are you doing in that regard?

Maybe you don't pray for other church members, but do you pray for the pastor of your church? Other churches? Do you know names? Do you mention names? IS there a certain time when you do it?

Paul started most of the churches where he sent letters and felt responsible for those who came to know the Lord by virtue of his personal witness. As he traveled, he wanted to be everywhere at one time but couldn't so he thought about others constantly and prayed for them when they came to mind.

If you're a teacher, do you know the names of all the members of your class? Do you pray for them by name; their husband, wife and/or children? Sadly, if you're like most of us, you hardly pray for yourself and your own family, much less other people, their families and church.

"Help John today, Father - Give him peace." I estimate the time it takes to speak those seven words at slightly less than three (3) seconds. Do you love someone enough to give them three seconds of your time today? In such brief, specific and direct prayer, most of us can pray for our immediate family in less than one minute.

This fact may alarm you, but did you know that prayer is the most needed, most discussed and least exercised practice in church? Think about this fact: If you're like most people, you'll spend more time in your life saying the word "prayer" than actually doing it. And in the same sentence, you'll probably infer that you care about people.

I don't know about you, but I hope God doesn't own a stopwatch.
