"...and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. Matthew 1:16 One more Christmas message before moving on to thought concerning the approaching new year... In the first seventeen verses of Matthew, we read the genealogy of Jesus, which includes fourteen generations from Abraham to King David, fourteen generations more to the exile and finally fourteen more to the birth of Jesus. In all, forty-one names from Abraham, the man we call the first Jew to the birth of Messiah Jesus. The Christmas message I give you this year is the fact that the family tree of Jesus was not perfect in the sense of having flawless character. For example, there is a murderer, a prostitute, a thief, a seducer and an adulteress in Mary's family line. Simply spoken, within Christ's family are several people who made mistakes. Think about it: In Abraham we see God's promise to bless the nations of the earth through his righteous seed, Jesus. In Jesus we see the promises of God are sure and faithful regardless of man's propensity to sin. But all their mistakes could not make God's promises bend one millimeter off track. Now that's something I'm glad to hear as I get ready to begin a new year. Amen? Just Thinkin'... WebServant
