"Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory." Psalm 73:23-24 This is the last day of the year and the time we normally reflect on the past year while looking forward to a fresh new year of opportunity. It's like we're frozen in time: too busy looking back and too pensive about the future to do much of anything of substance today. It's like being on a treadmill; you do a lot of walking and running but don't go anywhere. Well then, since we're running in place today, why not focus on what God has done this past year and what He can do in the coming year? David knew something about running in place. If you want inspiration, just look in the book of Psalms and you'll find a different emotion for each day of the new year. However, in the 73rd chapter, he summarized my feeling today and wrote something I've pondered countless times: You guided me yesterday, you'll do it today if I'll let you and one day, perhaps today, you'll guide me home. "O, that will be glory - glory for me! Will you allow God to guide you today? If you're reading the word of God and meditating on it, making it the center of every decision, then the answer is "Yes!" Otherwise, you're like a guided missile going through life without a guidance system in place. You're guaranteed to hit what you're aiming at, but no one, including you, is sure of the destination. Every year about this time, I point to the Prayertower hyperlink entitled, "Read through the Bible in One Year." This is a "point and click" link to a page of 365 entries of Scripture - one for each day. By reading a few verses in the Old and New Testaments each day next year, it's relatively simple to complete the reading of the entire Bible. Of course reading it alone doesn't do much. You should do so with desire to know and do God's will by daily asking God to guide you (in prayer). Note: Mount Soledad Presbyterian Church in La Jolla, CA has organized the content of "Read the Bible Thru" into a neat booklet they make available to those who want a printed version of this text: Just click below and print it: http://www.mountsoledad.org/2004_Reading_booklet.pdf 365/1: In the upper right-hand corner of each PT daily devotion, there's a countdown of days expended and days remaining in the year. Today, we've completed the countdown for 2003. Tomorrow, God willing, it will read "1/365." Are you ready for day one? Then, why not make God's word the center of your universe on day 365 and let's hit the ground running in 2004? Just Thinkin'... WebServant
