Stop trusting in man, who has but a breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
Isaiah 2:22

Have you ever wondered how you came to be where you are? Obviously, your parents had a lot to do with it in your early years. But since you became an adult, your personal choices more than anything else have resulted in determining where you live, what you do and where you go. Other people no doubt played a part, but by in large, you are what you are because you chose it.

Isaiah was a prophet during the reign of king Uzziah and revealed more about the coming Messiah than anyone else in history. His prophecies include the foretelling of the virgin birth, his kingly family line, where he would be born, what he would doto redeem us and how he would set up the greatest kingdom on earth, just to mention a few.

Jesus fulfilled all the Messianic prophecies of Isaiah as well as all the other prophets. No doubt, His destiny was determined by the Father, but he chose the way he would accomplish them. Most of us on the other hand, have chosen less wisely and found ourselves in one predicament after another on our way to one disaster after another.

It's obvious that our counsel has been found other places besides God's word. While on earth, Jesus chose counsel wisely and showed us a better way. He fulfilled his potential and it was not done by doing what other men thought best. He did what the Father wanted, regardless of what man thought. Sadly, we are products of whoever has our attention at the moment, no matter good or bad. We are today where our choices have taken us.

The psalmist said, "Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you." (Vs 9:10) God asks what of account is man? In other words, what has trusting in man done for you so far? You'd think we'd learn to practice success and avoid doing things that result in failure, but that's just the human way I suppose.

Today, you might wish you could escape your surroundings and find comfort in God's arms. Well, I have good news for you today: That joy can be found right where you are - regardless of your history of wrong choices and failed relationships.

Trust in God is found through a living, vibrant faith in His son Jesus. Isaiah started his testament by asking what hope there is in man. In the coming chapters, he will preach that Jesus the Messiah is man's only hope in this life and the next. Have you met the One who has earned your trust? His name is Jesus and he can be your Faithful Friend. If you don't know Him as Savior in this life however, you will meet Him later as your Righteous Judge.

If you miss out on everything else, don't miss out on Jesus. He has proven in my life that He is the only One who can make sense of the world's nonsense. And he can do it in your life too.
