The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him.
Isaiah 11:2a

Isaiah spoke of a Branch that would stem from Jesse, King David's father. He said one would come who would reclaim the remnant of God's people from around the world to reign over the earth with Him. We now know this Branch has a name. It's Jesus, and He not only is the Lion of Judah and the Prince of Peace, but more importantly God's Son.

Isaiah also said the One who would come would see the Spirit of God rest on Him. It almost sounds like Isaiah as watching the future unfold. It was like he had front row seat by the Jordan River and saw the Son of God go into the baptismal water. He then saw the Holy Spirit come from heaven and rest upon him as God spoke from heaven and said, "This is my Son in whom I am well pleased."

The Spirit of God revealed Himself in Jesus as a Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel and knowledge - all with a reverential fear of God that was displayed in Jesus as a divine nature. Isaiah spoke of the Righteousness of God and of the coming time of God's reign on earth. The wolf will lie with the lamb and the leopard with the goat. And Jesus will be a Banner for all people.

I think we fail to see Jesus for who He really is sometime. Isaiah saw Him as a baby, but He also saw Him high and lifted up, worshiped by all of heaven and praised by all living things.

How do you see the Savior today? Do you see Him as the Suffering Savior. In chapter 53, we'll see Him that way, but we should always remember that Jesus surrendered what he was to become what we needed. The Branch was broken for you and me and because he did, we'll see Him one day recognized for who He is. King of Kings and Lords of Lords. I can't wait, can you?
