What a wonderful promise we have in 68:19: God carries our burden for us each day. I wonder: does God carry your burden or is He there just to pull you up after you've carried it as long as you could before collapsing? It's indeed a great thing that we can take everything to the Lord in prayer like it says in the hymn. But are we truly trusting God with the "little" things in our life, or just looking to Him to help us with big things? In the same way, Scripture says God means for each of us to help each other, not just in time of great need but on a regular basis. In Ephesians 4, Paul lays out the design of the church. Stating that each of us is given a special gift to minister within the body of Christ, Paul said Jesus is at the head and we are like body parts. The hand cannot do some things unless the foot takes him where he needs to be. The foot cannot or at least should not do anything for which the hand was designated to do. We call this provision of God a "gift," and the Psalmist said it would come to every believer after Messiah ascended into heaven. (Cp: Ps 68:18) It's significant that the very next verse of Scripture after the promise of gifts to us is one where we speak of bearing burdens. It's as if the Psalmist wanted to emphasize the value of helping one another by using pointing out God's care for us. He cares for us, so why would we not care for one another? As a believer, are you fulfilling the purpose for which God equipped you? If he made you a foot in the body of Christ, are you carrying other believers where they need to go so they can be what God designed them to be? If you're a hand in the body, are you using your supernatural ability to help carry someone else's burden? If we let God be our Burden-bearer, I imagine we won't spend as much time on the ground and He won't spend nearly as much time picking us up.
