I
have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be
silent day or night. |

On the front page of the Tower, a wall is pictured with Isaiah's words from chapter 62. The beautiful piece of artwork was constructed by a church member of a church to be used as the center post of a young prayer ministry. To my knowledge, the wall still stands. That ministry consisted of one or more people spending one-hour in prayer 24/7 for the church, the lost and those who ministered to them. It was planned to write one or more names on a brick of the wall indicating the hour of the day someone was praying. It was my privilege to spend my time on Sunday in a corridor off the sanctuary called the prayer "room." Years later I can say with confidence many of this watchman's prayers were answered, but there is still much work to do and I hope that work has not grown cold. How much and when to pray is often the object of much discussion among Christians. Today, the watchmen previously posted on the walls of Jerusalem are not active because the walls have long since fallen. The prayer that is taking place today in Jerusalem occurs at the only standing remnant of the city's western wall. It's a picture of what seems like a continuing ministry, but not all Jews are praying for the same thing. Some look for the Messiah to come, others for Israel to find peace and a few others look for the Prince of Peace to make Jerusalem the praise of the earth as promised. The object of the original watchmen's prayer was the establishment of Jerusalem as the hub of the earth, ruled by Messiah who will be revered by the world. But alas, today no nation is as hated as Israel. Still, the passing time is no deterrent for the ultimate fulfillment of what God's promised. Where is your place in the prayer wall, O watchman? And when do you regularly and longingly lift your heart in prayer for your nation and its people? Will prayer hasten God's coming? Can't say for sure, but I know for a fact that a lack of prayer has a definite impact on it. Never silent - day or night; Have you prayed today for the coming of the Lord? If not, it might be you're not ready and that's the reason your prayer time on the wall is marked by silence. God is coming and with Him comes a time of accounting. For such a time for which the world has longed, how sad it will be when you learn that your silence on the wall was actually unspoken prayer. It sounds something like this: "I don't need you, God; let someone who really cares, pray!"
