Heaven
and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

This week, a United States Judge allowed a man to change his name to Jesus Christ. This lunatic wanted to be known as Messiah and sees no wrong in taking a name that we Christians hold sacred. I don't know which is more absurd, someone who would demonstrate such irreverence or a judge that will allow it to happen under protection of the U.S. legal system. But then again, I guess I''m not really that surprised. After all, did not Jesus say in Matthew 24:5 that in the end time many would come in his name and claim to be the Messiah? (Mt 24:5) It was with this in mind that our Lord gave us calm assurance that while impostors and false witnesses will certainly come and go, the word of God will remain as is, unchanged and all-powerful for all time. Accordingly, while every false religion in the world has built their belief on Scripture taken out of context, they and their twisted ideas will fade away while God's word goes on. Proverbs says every word of God is flawless and no one should add to what it says. (30:5-6) But men have seemingly forever taken what has proven to be profoundly truthful and then perverted it to suit their own perception of God whomever or whatever they consider him to be. Agur prayed, "Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty or riches, but give me only daily bread." Agur is a very wise man for he recognized the need to adjust his life according to God's word and not the other way around. There are two more days remaining in 2005. This is the right time to review the past year and make plans for 2006 that will make things better. Perhaps you've planned a resolution that you believe will improve your life and relationship with God. If so, I challenge you to become a man of God like what Scripture describes. If you ask God to do that, His unchangeable word will be a sturdy foundation upon which you can stand. Choose anything else less and you might want to enroll in a good dancing class so you can learn to make quick changes required when the ground beneath you shifts.
