Application
Saul was anointed king to satisfy the will of the people who wanted to be like other nations led by a great man and not an unseen God. Taller and more handsome than most other men, one might even say he looked kingly. With Samuel's blessing, Saul seemed to fit the bill of what the people wanted. But a strange thing happened after he took the throne. He showed that what you see on the outside and believe about someone on the inside isn't always consistent. Joseph, on the other hand, didn't look like someone who would be king, but by his character proved to be a perfect model of what a king should be. He humbled himself under God's authority and never got so big people couldn't see God in him.
