Then their father Israel said to them, “If that’s the way it has to be, then take the man a gift. Put some of the best products of the land in your bags. Take a little balm, a little honey, gum, myrrh, pistachio nuts, and almonds.

Our survival instinct trumps reluctance.

Live it
If your like me, you get a little ill to hear survival stories where a group of people marooned and dying of hunger, resort to eating one another to stay alive. Though not quite as gross, its not uncommon to watch television and see people eat things you don't want to look at, much less consume. But until we're hours from starvation, it's naive for us to think we'd choose to die before eating something normally considered offensive.
There are accounts all through Scripture where someone does something out of character because of desperation. In many cases, what they do saves their life, other times it opens their eyes to see themselves in a different light. Today, we will have many choices, some of which will propel our career, others may set our life into a tailspin that only God can fix. But, will we stop and ask Him what He thinks or choose what satisfies our fleshly desires? What Israel thought was another broken rung in his ladder, was actually God answering his prayers. Before we discount what seems bad, perhaps we'd better consider God isn't limited to only doing good things to positively affect our life. Hmmm?

Pray it
I see you working in my life in both good and bad things, good choices I make and the bad ones too. In fact, because of your great grace, I can say the net effect has been you working for good in my life. For that I don't have enough words of gratitude, enough offerings to make, enough ways to show my thanks. You are more than enough for every need I have, today and forever. Hallelujah!
