Obedience is more than doing what you're told.

Live it
Most people have a mistaken idea what it means to be obedient. The world views compliance as obedience, but God looks at the heart and considers obedience an immediate response with the right attitude. In other words, the world tolerates the expression of opposition or obligation as we act with reluctance. God, on the other hand is looking for the person who recognizes the true Source of all endeavors.

I'm reminded of the story of two boys, one hopelessly pessimistic and the other optimistic. Their father being a Psychologist by trade, ran an experiment to change the boys' natural attitude. He sent the pessimist to a room filled with bright lights, soothing music and expensive gifts. He then sent the optimist to a room filled six feet high with horse manure and closed both up in their respective environments. After an hour he visited the pessimist's room and found him crying because he expected more and was bored. As he approached the optimist's room, he hear singing. Opening the door, the optimist raised his head up above the manure and asked for more time. Perplexed, the father asked why and was told, "Dad, with this much manure, there just has to be a pony in here somewhere!"
