One-Minute Devotionals reveal in a single sentence, underlying truth about specific Scripture.

Jesus replied, “You don’t realize what you’re asking. Can you drink the cup that I’m going to drink?” “We can,” they told him.
Mt 20:22

Everyone wants privilege, but few, if any, want to pay for it.

Live it
In these days of warfare against capitalism, freedom for the citizens of the greatest country ever conceived is at risk. Every week, another bank fails, government takes control of another private corporation and another industry shuts down and lays off their workers. If that weren't enough, Congress is voting shortly to squeeze "evil" private insurance companies out of business. They plan to do this by offering cheap government provided insurance, effectively giving away what they can't produce to someone who doesn't earn it. The problem with this plan is the fact government taxes but never produces profit from anything they do. Government's success is based on the continued success of the capitalism they love to condemn.

The current administration likes to use the phrase, "Yes, We Can!" But, the majority of citizens disagree with the notion and want to shout back in unison, "No, You Can't!" Everyone wants to provide basic necessities for those who can't provide for themselves. But the current attitude being promoted is hard work and sacrifice mean nothing and someone shouldn't earn what someone else considers excessive. It seems appropriate then, that the strongest nation in the world is at risk from the action of a few people who never punched a time clock, but live off taxes imposed on those who do.

Pray it
I'm reminded that I'm a citizen of heaven, and only live here temporarily. Part of me weeps for America, but another part recognizes that even though it's delayed, payday does come. Scripture says pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall. When it gets down to it, America, without Your blessing, is becoming a footnote for the asterisk beside that verse.
