Power doesn't always accompany authority. Live it What was the thing that made these rebels so discontent? If you believe their complaint, they found hope in believing they could go back to the way things were. Could it be that they found it easier to live under the rule of Pharaoh than to live daily by faith in God? Did they really crave the slavery and harsh treatment of Egypt, or were they just whining and complaining about the authority appointed over them? We know the later was the reason because we know the rest of the story, but what about us? The truth is that rebellion fills the heart when we refuse to believe God.
