One-Minute Devotionals reveal in a single sentence, underlying truth about specific Scripture.

Don’t be in a hurry to talk. Don’t be eager to speak in the presence of God. Since God is in heaven and you are on earth, limit the number of your words.
Ecc 5:2

Reverence is a natural result of praying, not the other way around.

Live it
Elijah’s mountaintop experience on Mount Carmel didn’t come from being high above the ground. Instead, it came when he was on God’s side in a face-off between hundreds of false prophets and Jehovah. When God sent fire down from heaven to consume the altar and the water poured out around it, I imagine there wasn’t any trivial conversation going on. Unlike the average church service this morning, God’s presence demanded the silent, fearful and prayerful attention of those attending.

Isn't it interesting that new converts are most always respectful in church, whereas it takes spending time with other Christians to learn irreverence?

Pray it
When we see you on the mountaintop someday, Lord, I doubt there'll be much dancing and shouting as some brag. Instead, I expect to hear the thud of knees hitting the dirt as we fall face down at your feet and sob uncontrollably. You shouldn't have to ask for reverence, when your holiness demands it.
