One-Minute Devotionals reveal in a single sentence, underlying truth about specific Scripture.

But that’s not the way it’s going to be among you. Whoever wants to become great among you will be your servant.
Mt 20:26

Servants get the best reward; they just have to wait for it.

Live it
For years Elisha was Elijah's servant, someone most consider to have been one of the greatest men to have ever lived. Elisha did what servants do for their master, but he was really more of an apprentice than a servant. His on the job training led him to places he would have never gone alone, and as a servant/apprentice, he had respect of those who respected his master. He was never paid for what he did, instead would have probably gladly paid his master for the privilege if he could. He didn't serve for reward, because serving was his reward. And in the end, he would continue his master's ministry.

Elisha's service should be an example to those of us who follow Jesus. We're blessed to even be mentioned in the same sentence with our Lord. Humbly, we learn from him, study him and want to make his ministry our own. We don't deserve what we've been given, but want to give back in the same spirit he's given to us. In time we want to pass on what we've learned to someone who wants to emulate our Master by doing what we do. Such people are called disciples and what we do, discipleship. In our Lord's Great Commission, we are expected to do it. So, how's that working for you?

Pray it
Thank you for the privilege of serving you. It's been my privilege, the joy of my life, one of, if the only thing, that hasn't disappointed me in some respect. I've returned very little, but what I give is done so to honor you, God. In these days I'm focused on passing on what You've shown me to another who will continue the ministry given me. I'm not searching however, but am confident You'll bring them to me in your timing.
