One-Minute Devotionals reveal in a single sentence, underlying truth about specific Scripture.

It is better not to make a promise than to make one and not keep it.
Ecc 5:5

Mobile Format

Trust is hard to earn, but after failing to keep a promise, nearly impossible.

Live it
When Laban made a promise to Jacob, it involved giving his daughter Rachel in marriage to Jacob after seven years of labor. When it came time to deliver, Laban tricked Jacob and gave him her sister, Leah. Interestingly, it took Jacob seven years to keep his word and Laban less than a day to violate his. Before you take offense against Laban, think about Jacob's brother, Esau still stewing back in Canaan. You see, Esau was the victim of his brother's deception more than once and couldn't catch him before he left home and ran for his life.

For the next seven years, it was uncertain who distrusted who more, Jacob, Rachel, Leah, Esau or Laban. In the end, Jacob got revenge for his seven year violated contract, took both Laban's daughters, his healthy cattle and left by night for home, leaving his father-in-law holding an empty bag. What can be learned from this soap opera? You shouldn't be surprised when you meet one or more liars who are better at it than you are.

Pray it
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. Eph 6:18
