Live it
You hardly see this type of picture anymore, and it's not because it was taken before color film was available. It's a picture of brothers and sisters standing behind the grave marker of their parents, my grandparents on my mother's side of the family. Like most cemeteries back then, the graveyard was located behind the church they attended with their parents when they were growing up. Everyone in the picture is gone now, but our memory of them will always be with us. As is the case in most every family, as children grow and marry, they move away from the old homestead to call another place home.

In every year since this picture was taken, the Jackson clan from all around has gathered in Shreveport, Louisiana on Father's Day weekend. I still have fond memories of those family reunions, even though I haven't attended in years. Being involved in church leadership and such, it seems I always had an conflicting obligation. If I wasn't singing for worship service, I was substituting for the worship leader. Last year however, was the first time in a long time I could attend and my wife and I looked forward to going. All packed and my brothers expecting us, we watched as a storm came through Bartlett bringing tornadoes, flooding and power outages. Needless to say, we unpacked and stayed home, looking forward to going this year. All this to say, you might be homesick and separated by long distance, but thank God nothing can steal your memories of home and love for family. But there's something to be said for a hug that memory can't provide.

Pray it
Thank you for my godly heritage and parents who instilled love and respect in their children.
