Fruit Fly

Live it
I think Genetics 101 was the most interesting college class I ever attended. Not only was the study interesting and relative, but in lab we were able to test what we'd learned. For our purposes, we bred the common fruit fly, or Drosophilidae melanogaster. If you think they're all the same, think again. The have different body colors with different eye color, markings and wing configuration. In lab we'd start by placing ether over the mouth of a jar that contained several flies and found two of different sex, placing them together in a new clean jar. Next, we'd give them a few days to to procreate and when offspring were flying around in the jar, we'd test the bunch. anaesthesizing them and quickly examining as many as possible under the scope. You had to work fast to get a good sampling because when they woke up and flew away, your study was over.

The object of my genetic study was to understand what makes children of the same parents different. Although I've never taken a course in Psychology, I'm confident much of the behavioral traits in children can be, just as reliably, traced back to their biological parents. There is one thing that no one taught me however. I've never seen a red-eyed, wrinkled winged fruit fly act like a human, but the day is still young and I'm confident somewhere today, some person will act like a fruit fly before the day is over. Then they will fly off and expect laws to be passed to give them special rights and privilege for their deviant social behavior.

Pray it
I am what I am, but a part of me reflects Jesus. Help me today, to become more transparently like Him more than anyone else.
