One-Minute Devotionals reveal in a single sentence, underlying truth about specific Scripture.

When Joseph saw that his father had put his right hand on Ephraim’s
head, he didn’t like it. So he took his father’s hand in order to move it from
Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s.

Live it
One of my first jobs after being married and starting a family was as a draftsman for a structural engineer. Our office was on the nineteenth floor of what used to be called, the First National Bank Building. The principal in the firm was Warner Howe, the city's resident expert in matters of earthquakes. If you don't know it already, Memphis is positioned squarely on the New Madrid fault that formed the 18,000 square acre Reelfoot Lake in 1811. The quakes that formed it were likely off the scale, had the Richter scale been invented. The last one was one of the strongest ever recorded on the North American continent with tremors felt as far as 1,200 miles away.

What you also may not realize is the fact the bluff of Memphis is mostly sand. I was told our skyscraper was designed by Warner with a foundation that extended as far into the ground as it did above it. I still remember the building moaning on a windy day because of the high winds coming off the Mississippi River. I asked what was the source of the noise and was told it was the structure giving way. "Excuse me?" I responded. Then the engineer told me the mostly steel building frame was constructed with expansion joints that allowed it to shift rather than shake should a tornado or earthquake strike. "What about that one, I asked," pointing to the taller 100 North Main building visible from our office window. "That one," he said, "is not constructed for seismic resistance but constructed of reinforced concrete, and I've never walked within a mile of it." I was glad to know we were prepared for disaster, but it didn't stop me from getting a job on the ground several miles away.

Pray it
If anything's been consistent about my life it's the fact I'm always changing. Thank You, Father, You never have!
