Most who come back from war are changed, but Freddy came back destroyed. He was the most innocent and easy going person I knew before being drafted to serve in Vietnam. But, when he came home, he never got past his acquired addiction to alcohol and drugs, not to mention fighting a war our nation wasn't committed to win. He died an old man, in and out of jail more times than you can count, addicted, angry and never able to find peace. I don't think we will ever realize the complete toll of that "conflict," as it's now called. But, we now know it was just one of many to come, as the armed services would be used for political reasons and not to exact a military mission.

I was thinking the other day, that those of us who are redeemed, have been enlisted in a spiritual war. We've been equipped with an offensive weapon called the Word of God, but may not be fully engaged in the conflict, In Ephesians 6, Paul used the sword to illustrate his weapon, but if it were written today, it might just as easily have been a gun. Paul then said that constant prayer was the way the war would be fought, so in our illustration, we'd continually shoot the enemy with spiritual bullets. I can imagine a scene in heaven where three Christians stand before God at the Judgment. One held his weapon still smelling of gun powder and showing wear and tear from use. Another had a gun that was used a little, but only fired blanks while the gun of the third was still in the box, having never been fired. Now I ask you, if you were to stand before God today, which one would you be?

Pray it
I don't want to be all I can be, but everything You can make me. I realize I need much work and You are the only One who can get me into shape for battle. So do, in and to me, what You need to do, so I can stand before You having faithfully discharged my duty.
