Live it..
I was flying back from a one week visit to Saudi Arabia when I entered into a conversation with a man sitting next to me on the airplane. He looked American and was reading a Saudi Newspaper written for English speaking people. I asked what he was doing over there and he told he was going home, after working there several years as a banking executive. In a few moments he made a comment about something he was reading so I naturally inquired. He said it was reported that a judgment was made on a Korean man that had been placed in prison over 10 years earlier. The man, who worked for a construction company like the hosts I just left, had an automobile accident that resulted in the Saudi driver in the other car being killed. The Korean was immediately imprisoned but not immediately judged.
In America, someone committing a crime would have gone to trial and in a short period of time judged. A jury would have determined his innocence or guilt and then the judge would have sentenced him accordingly. However, in Saudi, killing a Saudi, purposefully or by accident, renders you guilty of murder and subjects you to a different kind of justice. Their law is simple; take an eye, lose an eye. However, the only son of the Saudi man who was killed was under age. So the newspaper reported the son had grown to legal age the day before and the first order of business after his coming-of-age party, was to give the order to execute the Korean. Was it brutal retribution or simple justice? I don't know, but I can tell you this. After watching the Saudis fly their new F-16 toys over the city for one week, I wouldn't get behind the wheel of a car in Saudi if someone paid me.
Pray it
I am grateful You, Father, are my Righteousness and not my executioner. I may not always do the right thing but I have the confidence that You are also my Judge, and as such, show no favoritism in Your judgments.
