Live it..
"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me." You know that little limerick we used as a kid is a lie, don't you? Offensive words may be the worst thing a person can do to someone else, because even though we say it in fun, the other person might not take it that way. Phil was the catcher on my junior baseball team. His father, Mr Lewis, faithfully attended our baseball games. I still remember him yelling at Phil from the bleachers behind home plate. He would say his son's ears reminded him of a taxi cab driving down the street with its doors open. Of course, he said it in jest, but loud enough for everyone to hear. Phil never said it that I know, but he could have turned it back on his dad by saying the milkman had ears just like his. I doubt Mr Lewis would have thought that funny. But you get the point. People say the harshest things, but some lace their harsh comments with barbed wire. I know that because using harsh words is the negative side of my spiritual gift of prophecy. Why don't we say things to build up people? And better yet, why don't we ask people if there's anything between them and us, and if there is, make it right and commit to pray for one another? There's a novel idea; using your words to show God's love. |
