Convincinator

Live it.

Many times today the truth about who Jesus is will be told someone and most of those who hear it will not believe it. But for those who do, some will opt to know more and will in the course of time decide to believe what they heard. Growing up, this was a process I don't recall seeing. That's because sermons were, and still are to me, the way the gospel is preached where a preacher attempts to convince someone to surrender their will to God. Inevitably, they would then close by asking everyone to close their eyes and those who needed salvation to repeat what he prayed. In most churches altar calls followed encouraging them to make their new "decision" public.

I'm like most people in that "walking the aisle" defined my coming to the Lord. And like most everyone else, my help in growing in the Lord was continuing to listen to sermons and sitting in a classroom. The first church never preached the gospel that they did not disciple converts, but my generation has ignored their precedent. The result is the likelihood that the vast majority of professing Christians today have never entered a saving relationship with Jesus. It took me thirty years of going to church to realize a personal relationship with Jesus comes from spending time with Him. Now I wonder if my seemingly sufficient verbal agreement with the preacher robbed me of spending time with God, which I have found to be the best way to confirm salvation or the lack of it.

Pray it.

I would choose one minute of being Your presence, Jesus, over a lifetime of sermons.
