Today's Scripture: "Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word." Jn 8:55

Last night was round one at Salvation Army discussing steps to spirituality. Having spoken to men in rehab every week for two years, I find nothing more fulfilling than discussing the subject. Unfortunately, I begin by tearing down wrong impressions while telling the men that God loves sinners and is patient but not tolerant of sin itself. Case in point: most view "steps" to spirituality as them sometimes walking up to meet God, but in fact it is God who walks down to meet us—if we ask.

It's always emotional for me to tell people they may have "chosen" God, but He may not have chosen them (Eph 1:3-4; Mt. 7:21-23). This message is important to encourage people to look at themselves objectively and honestly. If they have no genuine desire to read the Bible, don't know what it says or enjoy spending time with other believers you have to wonder how they can enjoy in heaven what they don't on earth. These same people have no conviction for sin (offending God) and seldom, if ever, pray so you have to wonder on what basis they have hope for eternity. Is it possible that they base their confidence on things other than confirmation from the Holy Spirit?(Gal. 5:22-23) If you ask me, that's playing with fire—literally.

Pray it.

Thank You, Holy Spirit, for doing everything Jesus said You would do.
